Critical Illness insurance can provide added protection for you and your family What is Critical Illness Insurance? Critical Illness Insurance is a living benefit that provides you with a lump sum payment in the event you are diagnosed with one of the five covered illnesses. Funds you’ll receive for a covered condition can be used to help with expenses that aren’t covered by your major medical insurance. Things like medical co-payments or deductibles, prescription drug co-payments, travel expenses, rent or mortgage payments or daycare for your children. Which illnesses are covered? There are five main illnesses covered by the CSEA Sponsored Critical Illness program.They are: (1) cancer, (2) heart attack, (3) stroke, (4) kidney failure, and (5) any condition requiring a major organ transplant. Is spouse coverage available? Yes, this program is available to active CSEA members, as well as their spouses and dependent children. How much coverage is available? Up to a $100,000 benefit amount is available for members and their spouses. $10,000 in coverage is available for dependent children. A $15,000 benefit amount is available for Simplified Issue, which means limited health questions to enroll. Why get Critical Illness Insurance? Even if you have good medical insurance, there are still expenses associated with a critical illness that most plans don’t cover. Benefits from Critical Illness Insurance are paid in a lump sum, and can help you fill in the gaps for those expenses that aren’t covered by your major medical insurance. A serious illness can put a serious strain on your finances. Having some added protection can help you focus on your recovery instead of your finances.
