The contract includes wage increases each year and the addition of an attendance incentive rewarding members who use four or less sick days during the school year. … FAIR BY THE NUMBERS — CSEA’s 23rd annual booth at the New York State Fair in Syracuse was once again a success. CSEA welcomed 2,837 members at the booth this year, and registered 95 people to vote. The union also distributed 15,000 shopping bags and helped fair visitors get ready for the school year by handing out school excuse notepads and coloring maps. The booth was staffed by 72 hardworking volunteers over the fair’s 12-day run … RECORD ATTENDANCE — A record number of Western Region officers and activists attended the annual Western Region Fall Meeting in September. More than 400 people joined Western Region President Flo Tripi for the meeting, which featured officer training and workshops designed to enrich and build leadership skills. Huntington Unit member named “Labor Hero” Town of Huntington Unit member Theresa Morris has been selected as a 2013 “Hero of Labor” by the Labor Press and recently featured in that publication. She was nominated by Long Island Region President Nick LaMorte for her humanitarian actions in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, when she turned her home into a “community center” as the effects of storm lingered. Morris works in the town’s Comptroller’s Office and will receive the award in New York City on Oct. 3.
